There are increasing signs that the Greek tourism season is growing, at least as far as arrivals are concerned, as the first figures for October show that this rise has not come with a proportionate rise in occupancy rates at hotels. This is explained by the further expansion of short-term lettings of apartments and holiday homes.

"The starting point for Greek tourism is excellent. There is a new momentum in Greece. The Greek economy has a new foundation and we can make plans for the future," Thomas Ellerbeck, member of the executive committee and international relations officer of the TUI group, Europe's largest tour operator, said in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency published on Monday.

Japanese conglomerate Mitsui intends to create an extensive network of seaplane services in western Greece in cooperation with Hellenic Water Airports, starting in the spring, following test flights in the last few days off between Corfu and nearby Ionian islands.
